November 17, 2012: Learn to purchase art and participate in an auction

What ?

In collaboration with artsScène, two contemporary art experts are offering a private course on how to buy contemporary art and how auctions work. Immediately following, you will be offered the opportunity to participate in a contemporary art auction organized by Les éditions esse. This is a unique opportunity to exchange with collectors, artists, an auctioneer and gallery owners.

When ?

5:30 pm: Cocktail – Arts Networking
Have a first peek at the works that will be available for purchase during the evening’s auction.

9 pm: Private Course
Paul Maréchal, art historian and curator of the Power Corporation art collection, and Silvia Casas, contemporary art historian and Director of Decorative Arts with IEGOR – Hôtel des Encans, will walk the audience through the auction process, along with the concepts of value estimates, reserve prices, the auctioneer’ role and the difference between primary and secondary markets. All this will take place in a casual setting that welcomes questions and audience participation.

7 pm: Cocktail – Registration
Exchanges between participants continue as one and all sign up for the auction.

7:30 pm: Auction Fundraiser
Join the audience of this contemporary art auction fundraiser and who knows, you may walk out with some artwork.
